Video emerges of a tipper truck fly tipping in a Blackpool street
The 250ft long trail of household rubbish was dumped in broad daylight and included a toilet, a mattress, a wheelie bin and even a bath. There was also an assortment of toys, bits of furniture and old wood.
Because the trail of rubbish was dumped right down the centre of the street in Chadfield Road, Blackpool, residents were unable to leave the road in their cars until the mess was cleaned up by the local council.
According to a newspaper report, the lady whose CCTV camera caught the footage said:
"I have lived here for years and I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s a disgrace. This is a very quiet street normally and you don’t usually see this sort of thing around here. In the middle of the day as well - it’s just shocking. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the video, I don’t know what sort of person would do this. This is a quiet street and not much happens here so this is so out of the ordinary".
In the report, Councillor Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council is quoted as saying:
“It’s absolutely despicable that not only have our officers had to spend two hours clearing up this mess, but it could have been very dangerous for residents and pedestrians walking by"
" We are in the middle of the school summer holidays and there could have been any number of children nearby. There is simply no excuse for it. This is just unacceptable that our staff are having to waste time clearing up this rubbish when they should be out litter picking after a very busy few days in the resort. Our staff work incredibly hard to keep Blackpool looking as tidy as possible but incidents like this just make it so much more difficult".
"We attended within an hour with two cage vehicles to clear the road, and we will be doing everything we can to catch the culprits and bring them to justice - we will not hesitate to prosecute".
